Question

There are two plane mirrors with reflecting surface facing each other. Both the mirrors are moving with speed v away from each other. A point object is placed between the mirrors. The velocity of the image formed due to nth reflection will be :
  1. 2nv
  2. nv
  3. 3nv
  4. 4nv

A
2nv
B
3nv
C
4nv
D
nv
Solution
Verified by Toppr

As you can see the first image formed is at a distance equal to 2 times of the distance between the mirrors. Similarly the distance between nth order image will be 2n times that distance.

Hence we can conclude from this that the speed of nth order image will be equal to 2n times the speed of mirror.

The velocity of the image formed due to nth reflection will be equal to 2nv.

A point object is kept between a plane mirror and a concave mirror facing each other. The distance between the mirrors is 22.5cm. Plane mirror is placed perpendicular to principal axis of concave mirror. The radius of curvature of the concave mirror is 20cm. What should be the distance of the object from the concave mirror so that after two successive reflections the final image is formed on the object itself? (Consider first reflection from concave mirror)
