Question

Three number are in the ratio of 4:5:6. If the sum of the largest and smallest equals the sum of the third and 55, find the numbers.

Let the numbers be 4x, 5x and 6x
According to the question we can write as
$$6x + 4x = 5 + 55$$
On rearring we can write as
$$10x - 5x = 55$$
$$5x = 55 $$
$$x = 55/5 = 11$$
So the numbers are 44, 55 and 66
