Question

Three oxides of nitrogen, $$NO, NO_{2}$$ and $$N_{2}O$$, can be formed under different conditions.
$$NO_{2}$$ can be formed by different chemical reactions.
Write equation for the formation of $$NO_{2}$$ by:
$$\bullet$$ the reaction of $$N_{2}$$ with $$O_{2}$$
$$\bullet$$ the thermal decomposition of magnesium nitrate.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Solution:-
  • Reaction of $${N}_{2}$$ with $${O}_{2}$$-
$${N}_{2} + 2 {O}_{2} \rightarrow 2 N{O}_{2}$$
  • Thermal decomposition of magnesium nitrate $$\left( MgN{O}_{3} \right)$$-
$$2 Mg {\left( N{O}_{3} \right)}_{2} \rightarrow 2 MgO + 4 N{O}_{2} + {O}_{2}$$
