Question

Two cars P and Q starts from a point at the same time in a straight line and their positions are represents by xP(t)=at+bt2 and xQ(t)=ftt2. At what time do the cars have the same velocity?
  1. fa2(1+b)
  2. af1+b
  3. a+f2(b1)
  4. a+f2(1+b)

A
a+f2(b1)
B
fa2(1+b)
C
af1+b
D
a+f2(1+b)
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Step 1: Calculate velocity of car P and Q
VP=d[xP(t)]dt =ddt(at+bt2) =a+2bt ....(1)

VQ=d[xQ(t)]dt=ddt(ftt2)=f2t ....(2)

Step 2: Time at which both have the same velocity
Let t0 be the time when VP and VQ are same
Equate equation (1) and (2)
VP|t=t0=VQ|t=t0
a+2bt0=f2t0
t0=fa2(b+1)
Hence, Option(A) is correct.
