Question

Assertion :Two equipotential surfaces cannot cut each other. Reason: Two equipotential surfaces are parallel to each other.
  1. Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
  2. Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
  3. Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
  4. Assertion is incorrect but Reason is correct

A
Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
B
Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
C
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
D
Assertion is incorrect but Reason is correct
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The electric field lines are perpendicular to the equipotential surface. The field lines can not intersect each other because the electric force can not have two directions at a point. Thus two equipotential surfaces are not necessarily parallel to each other.
