Two numbers are in the ratio $$3:5$$. If the sum of numbers is $$144$$, then teh smaller number is

A
$$72$$
B
$$90$$
C
$$48$$
D
$$54$$
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Correct option is A. $$54$$
Let,
The smaller number be $$3x$$ and the other number be $$5x$$

Given that,
Sum of the numbers $$=144$$
$$\Rightarrow 3x+5x=144$$
$$\Rightarrow 8x=144$$
$$\Rightarrow x=\dfrac{144}{8}=18$$

Therefore,
First number $$=3\times 18=54$$
Second number $$=5\times 18=90$$
$$\therefore$$ The smallest number $$=54$$
