Question

Two particles having the position ¯r1=(3^i+5^j)m and ¯r2=(5^i3^j)m move with velocities ¯V1=(4^i+3^j)m/s and ¯V2=(a^i+7^j)m/s . If the particles collide, then value of a must be :
  1. 8
  2. 4
  3. 2
  4. 6

A
2
B
8
C
6
D
4
Solution
Verified by Toppr

given the points and their velocities coordinates after 't' time will be
(4t+3 , 3t+5) and (at-5 , 7t-3), for collision all the coordinates must be equal at some time.
equating Y-coordinates gives us 7t3=3t+5t=2sec
at t=2 X - coordinates. 4t+3=at54×2+3=2a5a=8
