Question

Two plane mirrors are inclined to each other at an angle of 60. If a ray of light incident on the first mirror is parallel to the second mirror, it is reflected from the second mirror
  1. Perpendicular to the first mirror
  2. Parallel to the first mirror
  3. parallel to the second mirror
  4. Perpendicular to the second mirror.

A
Perpendicular to the first mirror
B
Parallel to the first mirror
C
Perpendicular to the second mirror.
D
parallel to the second mirror
Solution

Let θ be the angle between the two mirrors OM1 and OM2
The incident ray is parallel to mirror OM2 and strikes the mirror OM1 at an equal incidence angle.
From the given figure above
M1BA=OBC=M1OM2=θ
Similarly M2CD=BCO=M1OM2=θ
From OBC
3θ=180θ=60
So, reflected ray is parallel to first mirror.
