Question

Two solutions have different osmotic pressures. The solution of higher osmotic pressure is called :
  1. isotonic solution
  2. hypotonic solution
  3. isotopic solution
  4. hypertonic solution

A
isotonic solution
B
hypotonic solution
C
isotopic solution
D
hypertonic solution
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Ans (D)
Hypertonic solution.
Osmotic pressure is the minimum pressure required to prevent the inward flow of solvent melecules through a semipermeable membrane. The solution with a higher concentration of solute leading to a higher osmotic pressure is called hypertonic solution. Isotonic solutions have same osmotic pressure and hypotonic solitions have less osmotic pressure.
