Question

Uncertainty in position of an electron (m=9.1×1028g) moving with a velocity of 3×104cm/s accurate upto 0.001% will be :
(Use h4π in uncertainty expression where h=6.626×1027erg s)

  1. 7.68 cm
  2. 5.79 cm
  3. 1.93 cm
  4. 3.84 cm

A
1.93 cm
B
5.79 cm
C
7.68 cm
D
3.84 cm
Solution
Verified by Toppr

According to Heisenbergs uncertainity principle,
ΔxmΔv=h4Π
so,ΔxΔv=h4Πm
Hence, product of uncertainity in position and velocity=h4πm

Here,m=9.1×1028g,h=6.626×1027Js

now, product of uncertainity in position and velocity=6.626×1027/(4×3.14×9.1×1028×0.3)

=(6.626×1027)/(4×3.14×9.1×1027×0.3)

=1.93cm
