Question

Villi are present in the intestine and not in the stomach. Give reasons.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

The mucosal wall of small intestine form million of infoldings called as villi which help in absorption of digested nutrients after the completed digestion in the small intestine. While the infoldings of the stomach called as rugae help in increasing the surface area for more and more accommodation of food in the stomach by expanding the stomach.
So, the infoldings of the small intestine cannot be found in the stomach because there is no absorption of any food material in the stomach as the digestion is not completed so the function of villi will not be accomplished if present in the stomach instead of the small intestine.
