Assertion:
Water and mineral uptake by root hairs from the soil occurs through apoplast until it reaches endodermis.
Reason:
Casparian strips in endodermis are suberized.
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
In plants, usually maximum water uptake is found in the root hair zone, as this part has the maximum surface area due to the presence of root hairs. These root hairs also withdraw from interspaces, which are not in contact with epiblema of the root. Whereas, the zone of mature cells cannot absorb water because of the presence of impermeable and suberised surface layer.
