Question

Water is flowing continuously from a tap having an internal diameter 8 x 103 m. The water velocity as it leaves the tap is 0.4 m s1. The diameter of the water stream at a distance 2 x 101 m below the tap is close to
  1. 5.0 x 103 m
  2. 7.5 x 103 m
  3. 9.6 x 103 m
  4. 3.6 x 103 m

A
7.5 x 103 m
B
9.6 x 103 m
C
5.0 x 103 m
D
3.6 x 103 m
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given data,
d1=8×103m
v1=0.4ms1
h=0.2m
According to equation of motion,
v2=v21+2gh
=(0.4)2+2×10×0.2
2ms1
According to equation of continuity
a1v1=a2v2
π×(8×1032)2×0.4=π×(d22)2×2
d2=3.6×103m
