What are proteins? Describe the different biological function of proteins.
Proteins are the building blocks of the body. It is formed by linking of chain of amino acid by the peptide bond.
The biological functions of proteins are:
1) Enzymes are proteins which catalyse the biochemical reactions.
2) Proteins like actin and myosin help in the contraction of muscles.
3) Several hormones are peptides and proteins. They play an important role in the regulation of metabolic reactions.
4) Albumin is a plasma protein which maintains the colloid osmotic pressure of plasma and transport materials.
5) Fibrinogen is a plasma protein which helps in blood clotting.
