What are the features of the lesser Himalayas?
- The Mahabharata Range – also called the Lesser Himalaya – is a major east-west mountain range with elevations 3,700 to 4,500 m (12,000 to 14,500 feet) along the crest, paralleling the much higher Great Himalaya range from the Indus River in Pakistan across northern India .
- Lesser Himalaya (or Middle Himalaya or Himachal or Antagiri) was formed rising up south of the Greater Himalaya.
- The range lies between the Great Himalayas to the northeast and the Siwalik Range (Outer Himalayas) to the southeast and has an average elevation of 12,000 to 15,000 feet (3,700 to 4,500 metres). It includes portions of the western (Punjab), Kumaun, Nepal, and Assam Himalayas ranges.
