  • Well is an excavation or a structure created in ground by digging or drilling to pull underground water.
  • Water is drawn by using a motor pump or by a bucket and rope.
  • A well is usually dug where sweet underground water is available like in northern plains, regions of the Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Cauvery, parts of the Narmada and the Tapti valleys.
  • It is dug 3-15 metres deep.
  • Usually used to lift the ground water from the well for irrigation, drinking, bathing and for other purposes.
