Question

What are the units of equilibrium constant (kc) for the following reaction?
C(s)+O2(g)CO2(g)
  1. mol/lit
  2. (mol/lit)1
  3. lit2mol2
  4. kc has no units

A
mol/lit
B
lit2mol2
C
kc has no units
D
(mol/lit)1
Solution
Verified by Toppr

For the reaction:
C(s)+O2(g)CO2(g)
KC=[CO2][C][O2],[C]=1
because carbon is solid
kc=[CO2][O2]
[CO2]= Molarity of CO2
[O2]= Molarity of O2
Both [CO2]&[O2] must
have same unit i.e. mol/lit.
Hence, K c will be unitless.
