The tracheae are silvery white ectodermal epithelial tubes. Intima is the internal chitinous lining. It forms transverse spiral thickenings or ridges known as taenidia which strengthen the walls and prevent their collapse. The trachea of rabbit is prevented from collapsing by incomplete rings of cartilage.
