Question

What is internal reflection of light ?What ate the two essential conditions for total internal reflection to take place?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

When a ray of light falls from denser medium to rarer medium at an angle greater than critical angle, then the ray gets reflected instead of refraction as the surface starts acting as reflecting surface and this phenomenon is known as total internal reflection of light.
Two conditions for TIR :
(i) : Ray must fall from denser to rarer medium.
(ii) : Angle of incidence must be greater than critical angle.
