- Lysozyme is an enzyme. This enzyme is present in saliva, tears and certain other body fluids. The enzyme is characterized by the ability to break down the bacterial cell wall.
- The enzymes break the glycosidic bonds in the cell wall. This provides protection against infections by microorganisms.
- The enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of the damaged cellular organelles and certain proteins.
