Question

What length of tarpaulin 3 m wide will be required to make conical tent of height 8 m and base radius 6 m? Assume that the extra length of material that will be required for stitching margins and wastage in cutting is approximately 20 cm.
(Use π=3.14)

  1. 85 m
  2. 63 m
  3. 74 m
  4. 92 m

A
85 m
B
63 m
C
74 m
D
92 m
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given,
h=8m, r=6m.

Slant height l=r2+h2

=62+82 =36+64

=100 =10 m.

Width surface area = π(r)(l)

=3.14(6)(10) =1883.4m2.

Width of tarpaulin =3 m.

length of tarpaulin =188.43 =62.8 m

Extra length of material required =20 cm =0.2 m

actual length of tarpaulin required =62.8 m +0.2 m =63 m.

Hence, option A is correct.
