Question

What steps have been taken by Governments across India to curb population growth?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Overpopulation leads to poverty, unemployment, climate change which pressurizes the natural resources like forests and lands, leads to various social and religious conflicts. So overpopulation can be described as root cause of most of the problems. The condition is really unfortunate and is quite visible in places like market, public places, trains, buses etc, If anyone want to get an idea of the situation, take a ride in Mumbai local or Delhi Metro for instance.

“India’s forced Sterilisation “- Forced sterilisation too was suggested as a measure to counter over-population, this thing in fact had already been tried in India. During the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1976 when her son Sanjay Gandhi lead a forceful sterilisation program in which 10 million people were sterilised , there are few incidents of forceful sterilisation where people are compelled to go and get sterilised.
