In 1969, Robert Whittaker proposed the five kingdom classification. In his proposed classification, he divided organisms into five kingdoms: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia. These groups were formed on the basis of their cell structure, mode, and source of nutrition, body organization, reproduction, and inter-relationships between organisms.
