Question

What would be the percentage of thymine in a double stranded DNA sample, which contains 20% cytosine of the total bases?

  1. 20%
  2. 10%
  3. 30%
  4. 40%

A
20%
B
30%
C
10%
D
40%
Solution
Verified by Toppr

According to Chargaff's rule:
Guanine (purine) = Cytosine (pyrimidine) and

Adenine (purine) = Thymine (pyrimidine)

Therefore, Guanine would be 20% and total of G+C = 40% and hence A+T would be 60% that is 30% each. Hence, option C is correct answer.
