Verified by Toppr

F. F. Ricci discovered the most primitive bryophyte Riccia and also the only aquatic bryophyte, whose sporophytic phase is the most reduced amongst bryophytes as it is made up of only capsule lacking foot and seta. Therefore, Bryophtes are named after F.F Ricci. Riccia is a genus of liverworts in the order Marchantiales. The plants are small. The plant body is a thallus, that is not differentiated into root, stem and leaf. It is strap-shaped and branches dichotomously. Segments spread out from a central point to form a rosette or hemirosette, and are occasionally gregarious, forming intricate mats.
