The historic Convention on Biological diversity (The Earth Summit) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992, was the first world earth summit on the conservation of environment. All nations are called upon to take appropriate measures for conservation of biodiversity and sustainable utilization of its benefits. Brazil convened to address urgent problems of environmental protection and socioeconomic development.
