Question

Which is not true for species?
  1. Members of species can interbreed.
  2. Each species is reproductively isolated from every other species.
  3. Gene flow does not occur between populations of a species.
  4. Variations occur among members of a species.

A
Each species is reproductively isolated from every other species.
B
Gene flow does not occur between populations of a species.
C
Members of species can interbreed.
D
Variations occur among members of a species.
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Gene flow within a population can introduce or reintroduce gene versions to a population, increasing the genetic variation of that population. Gene flow across populations can make distant populations genetically similar to one another, hence reducing the chance of speciation. The less gene flow between two populations, the more likely that two populations will evolve into two species.
