Basically there are three main types of rocks found in nature that are sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous. Sedimentary are formed from particles of sand, shells, pebbles and other fragments of material. Metamorphic are formed under the earth's surface by metamorphosis and igneous are formed when magma cools and hardens.
