The passage is all about a boy Shuyu about his farm work thing because he was not interested in his book thing. Shuyu doesn't know how to take care of books. Maybe I should give them to my nephews. These books are of no use to me anymore. So he is interested in farm thing and the whole passage is suggesting that only.
