Some of the plant species, which have, at present, become rare or very rare due to overexploitation or habitat loss, have fallen into the category of endangered species like Dioscorea deltoides, Rauvolfia serpentina etc. Growing demand and irrational exploitation have resulted in the rapid depletion of Dioscorea from the natural habitat to a level of near extinction.
