Question

Which of the following results in more energy in a wave ?
  1. a smaller wavelength
  2. a lower frequency
  3. a shallower amplitude
  4. a lower speed

A
a shallower amplitude
B
a lower speed
C
a smaller wavelength
D
a lower frequency
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The intensity I of a wave is given by ,
I=Energy/(time×area) ,
or energy=I×time×area ,
thus we see that energy of a wave depends upon its intensity and intensity , If2 (f=frequency) , and f1/λ , therefore a smaller wavelength will result in more energy in a wave .
Besides that , energy associated with a wave of wavelength λ is given by ,
E=hc/λ ,
which also means that a smaller wavelength results in more energy .
