Question

Which of the following salts will not undergo hydrolysis?
  1. NaCl
  2. KCl
  3. NH4Cl
  4. CH3COONa

A
KCl
B
NH4Cl
C
CH3COONa
D
NaCl
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The salt of strong acid and strong base like NaCl,KCl does not undergo hydrolysis.

In this case, neither the cations nor the anion undergoes hydrolysis. Therefore, the solution remains neutral.

In the aqueous solution of NaCl,KCl its ionsNa+,K+ and Cl ions have no tendency to react with H+ or OH ions of water. This is because the possible products of such reaction are NaOH,KOH and HCl, which are they completely dissociated.

As a result, there is no change in the concentration of H+ and OH ions and hence the solution continues to remain neutral.

Hence options A, B are correct.
