A census is an official enumeration of population growth done periodically. In India the first census was done in the year 1872. The first complete census was taken in the year 1881. Since then the census have been held regularly every tenth year.
The Indian Census gives a detailed account of demographic social economic data. The last census was held in the year 2001.
