The Western Coastal Plains is a narrow strip of coastal plain between the west coast of India and the Western Ghats hills. West coast is the coast of submergence (except Malabar Coast). West Rivers form estuaries and eastern rivers form the delta. The continental shelf of east coast extends till 500km into the sea. These imply that sea is deeper in west coast than sea on the east coast. So, the west coast has favourable conditions for natural harbours.
