Which part of India gets bulk of its rainfall during the season of the Retreating Monsoons and why?
- Tamil Nadu is located on the eastern coast of India. South
India usually receives rainfall from the south-west monsoon. But in the case of Tamil Nadu, the south-west
monsoon arising from the Arabian Sea gets obstructed by the Western Ghats.
- Hence, Tamil Nadu receives most of its rain from the north-east and retreating monsoon during the winter season. Moreover, many low-pressure systems develop in the Bay of
Bengal during this period and move towards the east coast of Tamil Nadu causing
heavy rainfall.
