Sher Shah introduced the 'Rupaya' or 'Rupee' which is the offcial currency in India, Pakistan and some other states. He was the founder of the Sur Empire in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent. Modern rupee is an improvement on the system introduced by Sher Shah Suri. Gold coins were known as 'Mohar' and copper coins were known as Dam.
