Gol Gumbaz was built by Mohammed Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur and the seventh ruler of the Adil Shahi dynasty. It was built in the year of 1656 is an imposing structure of national importance. The name finds its roots from the words Gola Gummata meaning circular dome and is known as the Taj Mahal of South India.
