Marcian E Hoff invented the microprocessor

Marcian Edward "Ted" Hoff Jr. is one of the inventors of the microprocessor.

Development of the silicon-gate design methodology and the actual chip design was done by Federico Faggin, who also led the project during 1970-1971. In 1980, Hoff was named the first Intel Fellow, which is the highest technical position in the company. He stayed in that position until 1983 when he left for Atari.

The announcement sent shock waves throughout the computer industry, which could be forced to pay Hyatt millions of dollars in royalties. Most business texts credit engineer Ted Hoff at Intel Corp., based in Santa Clara, Calif., with having fathered the microprocessor between 1969 and 1971.
