Why are sacred groves highly protected?
Sacred forests are the forest patches around the place of worship which are held in high esteem tribal communities. These are the most undisturbed forest areas that are surrounded by highly decorated landscapes. Many such forest patches are found in the biodiversity-rich areas of India. Not a single branch is allowed to be cut from these forests. As a result, many endemic species which are extinct are seen here.
