Why DNA replication is called semiconservative?

Meselson and Stahl showed that DNA follows the semi-conservative model. After replication each DNA molecules has one parental and newly synthesized strand. After replication of one DNA strand, each daughter helices contains one of the original parental helical strands and one copied helical strands.
