Question

Why is a cyclotron not used to accelerate low weight charged particles?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

A cyclotron is a machine accelerates charged particle or ions to high energies. Both electric and magnetic field are used in the cyclotron to increase the energy of the charged particles.

In a cyclotron, charged particle accelerate outwards from the centre along a spiral path.
$$\rightarrow$$ Cyclotron not used to accelerate low weight charged particle because cyclotron is too light weighted and is get too much velocity. This is because cyclotron works only particle whose velocity is independent of their mass.
