Generally, tetraethyl lead is added to petrol to make it bum smoothly in motor vehicles. However, burning of petrol in automobiles releases toxic lead compounds through exhaust pipes of automobiles. Continuous inhalation of these compounds causes anaemia, brain damage, convulsions and even death.
