The World Leprosy Eradication Day is observed on the last Sunday of January every year to raise global awareness on Leprosy, a deadly disease caused by a slow-growing type of bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae. It was initiated in 1954 by French philanthropist and writer, Raoul Follereau.
