Copper vessels get tarnished. They form a layer of copper oxide which is basic in nature. When lemon juice, which is acidic in nature, is added to it, a neutralization reaction takes place, resulting in the formation of salt and water. The salt formed is removed by washing. So, copper vessels are cleaned using lemon.
