The energy released during the processes of nuclear fission and fusion is called nuclear energy. In both these processes, there is a loss in mass which converts into energy in accordance with Einstein’s mass-energy relation, $$E = mc^2$$. This energy is used in nuclear reactors to produce electrical energy. Energy is produced in the Sun and other stars by nuclear fusion.
