Question

Write the phenotypic and genotypic ratios of Mendel's cross-pollination experiments in pea plants with heterozygous yellow seeds (Yy) with that of the same type, i.e., Yy.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

If the heterozygous yellow seeds Yy are crossed with heterozygous yellow seeds Yy,
Parents: Yy x Yy
Gametes: Y, y x Y, y
Offspring: YY, Yy, Yy and yy
YY (yellow), Yy (yellow), Yy (yellow) and yy (green)
From the Punnett square, the phenotypic ratio is 3 (yellow): 1 (green).
The genotypic ratio is 1: 2: 1 (YY- 1, Yy-2 and yy-1).
