Question

x=525+2 and y=5+252.
Find the value of x2+y2+xy.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

We rationalize the denominator,
x=525+2×5252
x=5+43554
x=9451.
Then, x2=(945)(945)
=81+16×5725
=161725 .

We rationalize the denominator,
y=5+252×5+25+2
y=5+4+4554
y=9+451.
Then, y2=(9+45)(9+45)
=81+16×5+725
=161+725 .

Now, x=5+252
and y=525+2.
Then, xy=5+252×525+2
xy=1 .

Therefore, x2+y2+xy=161725+161+725+1=323.
