CBSE Grading Scheme:

CBSE introduced the grading for Class 10th into its evaluation system from 2010. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) was introduced to bring the students having a small difference in marks into the same category.

Here’s how the grading goes with marks obtained:

Mark Obtained Grade Allotted Grade Point (GP) Allotted
91-100 A1 10
81-90 A2 9
71-80 B1 8
61-70 B2 7
51-60 C1 6
41-50 C2 5
33-40 D 4
21-32 E1
00-20 E2

To qualify to the next level of Class 10th, a student must score a minimum D in every subject. Close to 1.4 lakh students scored perfect 10 in their CBSE 10th results in 2016; this number is 74,000 more than the number last year.

How to calculate your CGPA:

Though your CGPA is written on the report card, it is easy to calculate it on your own. Here’s how you can do it.

Add your grade points in the main five subjects, and then divide it by 5.

For example, if your grade points for the five main subjects are:

Subject 1: 9; Subject 2: 9; Subject 3: 8; Subject 4: 10; and Subject 5: 9

Step 1: Add the grade points: 9+9+8+10+9 = 45

Step 2: Divide it by 5

45/5 = 9

So, your CGPA is 9.

How to calculate your percentage from your CGPA:

In order to convert your overall CGPA into a percentage, multiply it by 9.5.

For example,

In this case 9 (CGPA) is multiplied by 9.5, so 9 x 9.5 = 85.5%

ICSE Grading Scheme & Qualification criteria:

Minimum pass marks, in ICSE Boards, for each subject, is 35%. The statement of marks issued contains marks scored in respective subjects & grade obtained. The result sheet carries overall score on a scale of 1 to 9; 1 being the best score. Quality of performance & grade obtained go with each other as depicted in the following table:

Grade Score Obtained Quality of Performance
1 & 2 Very Good
3,4 & 5 Pass with Credit
6 & 7 Pass
8 & 9 Fail
