Aadhaar Not Mandatory for NEET 2018!

Thousands of NEET 2018 aspirants breathed a sigh of relief when a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) not to make Aadhar number mandatory for the enrolment of candidates in NEET 2018 and all other all India exams. Earlier in the day, CBSE had made Aadhar compulsory for NEET 2018 aspirants across the country, except in Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, and Assam. In the judgment, the five-judge Supreme Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra stated that the students need not necessarily provide the Aadhar numbers as their identity proof in order to register for NEET 2018. The NEET 2018 aspirants can produce other forms of identification such as ration card, voter card, passport, driving license, bank account, etc.

The Supreme Court order covers not only NEET 2018 but also all other national-level examinations scheduled in the near future.

CBSE had some more good news in store for the NEET 2018 aspirants. Firstly, the last date of submission of the online application form for NEET 2018 has been extended from 9th March 2018 to 12th March 2018 till 5.30 pm. Furthermore, CBSE has also announced the facility of one-time correction opportunity in case an applicant makes a mistake while filling in the online application form. The window of one-time correction will be available to students from 15th March 2018 (Thursday) to 17th March 2018 (Saturday).

CBSE’s NEET 2018 Aadhar Notification

The NEET 2018 aspirants should note that in addition to Aadhar or Aadhar Enrollment number, they can mention their alternative identification numbers such as passport number, ration card number, bank account number, or any other valid Government Identity Number (like Driving License, Voter Id, etc.) at the time of filling the online application form.
