NEWS
AIIMS Bhopal was recently in use because it lacks basics
Thirteen years after the foundation stone was laid and five years after the first batch of students was admitted, Bhopal’s AIIMS is yet to get a licence to open a blood bank. Without a blood bank, the emergency department cannot be operational. Other crucial departments like surgery and gynaecology are not functional either. All of which, students say, has affected their learning. Some faculty members share the students’ frustration.
At AIIMS Bhopal, the practice has been to take batches of four students to nearby government hospitals and getting them to watch how operating theatres work. This is not the same as assisting and learning, added the faculty member. In the case of the gynaecology department, senior doctors ferry students to a nearby maternity hospital — the Sultania Zanana Haspatal — where they “visit” the labour room and watch a cesarean section being performed.
In the case of gynaecology department, senior doctors ferry students to nearby a maternity hospital — the Sultania Zanana Haspatal — where they “visit” the labour room and watch a cesarean section being performed. They are then taught the same process on a dummy and taught the theory component.
Finally, the city where your institute is located certainly plays a major role in forming memories for a lifetime. Bhopal is the perfect place for you to spend your formative years as it’s a fascinating place with interesting trivia and anecdotes. E.g. did you know that ‘The Bhojtal’ or the ‘Upper Lake’ is the largest man-made lake in India? Bhopal was ruled by the wives of Nawabs for over a hundred years. The Taj-ul-Masjid in Bhopal is one of the largest mosques in India. Split by a pair of lakes, Bhopal is indeed two cities within a city with two starkly contrasting cityscapes. Towards the North, you have the old city, a fascinating area of mosques, serpentine alleys, chowks, milling crowds, exotic havelis, and crowded bazaars. On the South of the two lakes is the new Bhopal. Here, you’ll find wide roads, upmarket shopping complexes, and plush hotels and restaurants nestled comfortably in the Arera and Shamla Hills, which overlook the lakes and the old city. The central district is known as New Market. Both sides of Bhopal are bound to enamor you in their own way and will bring out the child in you.
Roaming around and chilling out with friends and exploring the city in the spare time is something nobody wants to miss. AIIMS Bhopal is that blank canvas, which is waiting to be splashed by an array of beautiful colors of your student stories. It ensures that every moment you spend there is worth remembering, thanks to its vibrant environment and high quality of education.
